Capcom quietly released a new roguelike minigame for Resident Evil Requiem, titled 'Leon Must Die Forever.' The update landed first on PC and PlayStation, surprising fans who had anticipated a classic Mercenaries mode. Instead, players guide Leon through randomized levels with permadeath, using unpredictable weapons and special abilities to reach the final boss, Victor.
The minigame progresses through a rough chronological sequence of environments: starting on Wrenwood's main street, moving to the Care Center, and then to Raccoon City. Enemies scale in difficulty as players advance. Death is permanent, though multiple difficulty levels offer options for different skill levels. To keep up with escalating threats, players can complete challenges to earn credits and exchange them for better gear. Capcom’s official description reads, 'Grace made it home safely, but Leon still has work to do. Use his enhanced abilities to complete this minigame as fast as possible.'
Leon Must Die Forever becomes available only after finishing the main campaign. Once players have done so and updated the game, the mode appears directly on the main menu.
Contrary to widespread speculation, the new mode is not a version of the Resident Evil franchise’s Mercenaries mode – a omission that Capcom kept under wraps until launch. There is currently no indication that a Mercenaries experience will be added to Requiem. However, Capcom has confirmed that a major story add-on is in development, though details remain scarce. Resident Evil Requiem has sold 7 million copies, and IGN awarded it 9/10, praising how it 'splices two separate strains of survival horror together into one highly infectious new mutation.'
Resident Evil: Requiem delivers a gripping survival horror experience, inviting players to navigate perilous environments and solve challenging puzzles through the eyes of both Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy. With its innovative feature allowing seamless switches between first- and third-person perspectives, the game offers fresh tactical depth and immerses you in tense, atmospheric scenarios. The return to Raccoon City brings haunting nostalgia and relentless danger, while intertwined storylines keep the gameplay dynamic and engaging. Steam reviews praise Requiem for blending classic Resident Evil dread with modern investigative mechanics and flexible playstyles.
